Seventh-grader dominates Carver Spelling Bee
Seventh-grader Katherine Gomez Hernandez was named Carver’s spelling champion Jan. 12 after a tight battle with runner up, sixth-grader Kameryn Geter-Whiteside. Both students will go on to participate in the district spelling bee.
In round 6, the two students went back and forth for several minutes until finally Geter-Whiteside misspelled a work and Gomez Hernandez spelled hers correctly. Twenty-four students participated in the bee, having been chosen after class competitions Jan. 6. Mrs. Paige Swink presided over the bee, which was open to the public.
Other students who participated were Porshay Jones, Joshyah Torres, Clifton Dawkins, Amajyah Reeder, Nasir Gentry, Nijica Rookard, Tyana Richards, Jemyllah Rogers, Hunter Warren, Jeramiah Rose, Armani Jones, Kalaya Pitts, Terrance Mayfield, Alayna Trent, Maddison Poole, Lizabeth Zuniga, Kayla Dixon, Tedeija Harris, Roland Kits, Converse Harris, Natalie Mouzon and Tyon Swindler. Carver is proud of all of these students!
